Awareness

So October is breast cancer awareness month as I am sure most people know. We have all seen pink stuff everywhere. Football, food, signs, fundraising events...you name it...its probably pink this month.  Multiple women on both sides of my family have been diagnosed with breast cancer, and EVERYONE of my family members who have died...died of some sort of cancer. So yeah, I care about cancer and how awful it is. And because I care, I wanted to inform other people out there who also care about ways to give and what you need to know about donating.

The largest fundraising event for breast cancer is the Susan G Komen race for the cure. Well there has been some contraversy regarding how they raise funds from corporate sponsors, how they distribute funds, and how they have been accused of "bullying" other fund raising efforts by smaller organizations using the phrase "for the cure". Find stories about that here, here, here, and here.

So before you register for a fundraiser for well...anything really...get the facts. What are they really doing? How do they allocate funds? Are they REALLY doing what they say they are doing? At what cost? Try donating to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation here where $0.90 of every $1 donated goes to research.
